Grain Export and Import in January-February 2021: Grain Export Doubles

  • According to the RF Federal Customs Service statistics, during January-February Russia exported 7.6 mn tons of wheat and meslin, up 2.1-fold year-on-year. In terms of value, grain export surged 2.4-fold up to $1.9 bn.

    Wheat import into Russia during January-February 2021 grew by 43.2% up to 30.5 thousand tons. Corn import, on the contrary, declined by 41.6% down to 9.4 thousand tons. Barley import was non-existent in January-February 2021.

    In terms of value, wheat import was up 78.3% to $12.3 mn. Corn import was down 54.4% to $27.8 mn.

    In February 2021 alone, wheat and meslin export made 4.5 mn tons, up 2.9-fold year-on-year and up 46.1% month-on-month. In terms of value, it surged 3.4-fold year-on-year and was up 62.2% month-on-month to make $1.2 bn.

    Wheat import in February made 14.3 thousand tons, up 15.3% year-on-year and down 10.1% month-on-month. Value-wise, wheat import increased by 30.9% year-on-year and declined by 17.9% month-on-month to make $5.5 mn.

    Corn import decreased by 45.5% year-on-year and grew by 35% month-on-month making 5.4 thousand tons. In terms of value, it declined by 59.2% year-on-year and increased by 37.5% month-on-month to make $15.4 mn.
