Container Traffic via Ukrainian Ports in January-September

  • In January-September 2020, the sea ports of Ukraine handled 776.1 thousand TEU, up 8.8% year-on-year.

    By way of comparison, Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk during January-September 2020 handled 562.9 thousand TEU growing by 1.8%.

    According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, export container traffic via the Ukrainian sea ports made 363.7.6 thousand TEU, up 7.3% year-on-year.

    Import increased by 8.2% up to 376.6 thousand TEU. Transit container traffic via the major Ukrainian ports grew by 35.9% up to 35.8 thousand TEU. Cabotage was non-existent.

    Odessa handled 480.1 thousand TEU in January-September, up 1.9% year-on-year.

    Container traffic via Pivdenniy (formerly, Yuzhny) increased by 25.3% to make 181.7 thousand TEU.

    Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled 113.8 thousand TEU, up 16.7% year-on-year.

    Olvia Specialized Sea Port (formerly, Oktyabrsk) handled 420 TEU, up 4.7-fold year-on-year.
