TOP-5 Russian Container Terminals in January-August 2020

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports during January-August 2020 amounted to 3.5 mn TEU. Five terminals handled 1.9 mn TEU or 55.3% of this volume.

    Container Terminal Saint-Petersburg remains the leader in terms of container throughput. Its container traffic decreased by 14% down to 448.9 thousand TEU.

    First Container Terminal saw its container traffic grow by 1% up to 432.4 thousand TEU.

    Container traffic via Commercial Port of Vladivostok (VMTP) amounted to 428.7 thousand TEU, up 7.9% year-on-year.

    NUTEP increased its container traffic by 33.7% up to 319.3 thousand TEU.

    Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company handled 289.6 thousand TEU, up 10.4% year-on-year.

    It should be noted that the highest container throughput growth was via Arctic Consulting Service in Arkhangelsk. Its container traffic surged 5.6-fold. Pevek Sea Port was up 2.5-fold, Directorate for Construction under the Presidential Administrative Department in the Far Eastern Federal District of Vladivostok up 2.2-fold.

    Also, astronomical growth figures were demonstrated by stevedores, which had just several containers last year and this year handled many times more, such as Nikolaevsk Commercial Sea Port (+63,700%), Vanino Commercial Sea Port (+33,337.5%) and Makhachkala Commercial Sea Port (+5,700%).

    The largest decrease in container traffic was in Dalzavod-Terminal (Vladivostok) (-99%), Sea Port of the Troitsa Bay in Zarubino (-72.7%) and Tiksi Sea Port (-71.1%).
