Container Traffic via Ukrainian Ports Continues to Grow

  • During January-August 2020, the major sea ports of Ukraine handled 690.4 thousand TEU, up 9.2% year-on-year.

    By way of comparison, Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk during the same period handled 511.7 thousand TEU, up 1.4% year-on-year.

    According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, export container traffic via the Ukrainian sea ports made 321.2 thousand TEU, up 7.2% year-on-year. Import was up 8.5% to 333.5 thousand TEU.

    Transit container traffic via Ukrainian ports grew by 43.3%. Transit container traffic via the port of Pivdenniy soothed 2.-5 fold up to 13.2 thousand TEU. Cabotage was non-existent.

    Odessa handled 423.3 thousand TEU during January-August 2020, up 1.8% year-on-year.

    Container traffic via Pivdenniy (formerly, Yuzhny) grew by 26.7% to make 165.6 thousand TEU.

    Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled 101.1 thousand TEU, up 18.2% year-on-year.

    Olvia Specialized Sea Port (formerly, Oktyabrsk) handled 354 TEU, up 3.9-fold year-on-year.
