Digital Procedures for Asia – Europe Transit via Russia

  • Russian Railway, Belarusian Railways and the FESCO Transport Group have organized the first transit intermodal transportation of containers from China to Europe in a fully digital format within the INTERTRAN project.

The containers shipped from the port of Ningbo (China) to Commercial Port of Vladivostok, part of FESCO group, which then travelled by rail through the territory of Russia, arrived at the Kolyadichi station (Belarus) on September 3. According to FESCO, for Russia, it is the first digital transit container transportation on the Asia-Europe route.

As part of the project, the information systems of the Russian Railways and FESCO were integrated, enabling not only transit declaration and shipping documents to be transferred to the carrier in electronic form, but also bill of lading to be sent to stations in the Republic of Belarus in the electronic format as well.

The INTERTRAN project has been implemented throughout the Russian Railways network. FESCO has already sent more than 6 000 containers in import traffic using this technology.

The INTERTRAN project was introduced in September 2019 at the Eastern Economic Forum. The technology helped to reduce the time required for cargo clearance by four days down to 21 hours, using only electronic shipping documents and transit declarations and organizing digital interaction with customs authorities.
