Foreign Trade via Baltic Customs Up 8% in H1 2020

  • Foreign trade turnover via the Baltic Customs made $17.14 bn in January-June 2020, up 8.1% year-on-year. In H1 2020, the Baltic Customs contributed 222.73 bn rubles (almost $3.2 bn) of customs dues and tariffs into the federal budget.

    The number of cargo declarations issued made 162.6 thousand, including 114.5 thousand of import declarations (-3%) and 18.1 thousand of export declarations (+17.7%).

    In terms of tonnage, over 13.2 mn tons of cargo was declared via the Baltic Customs, up 72% year-on-year. Import traffic was down 2.3% to 5.2 mn tons, and export surged 3.4-fold up to some 8 mn tons.

    A significant share in the import volume was fruit accounting for almost 25.95%. Other top import commodities were polymer materials, ferrous metals, organic chemicals, and equipment.

    The top export commodities were fertilizers (32.83%), ore, stag and ash, timber and woodwork, ferrous metals, salt, sulphur, soil and stones.

    The major countries of origin for import cargo in the Baltic Customs region in January-June were China, Ecuador, Germany, India, and Argentina.

    The top countries of destination for export via the Baltic Customs were China (its share made 25.18%), Brazil and Turkey.
