Container Traffic via Ukrainian Ports Grows

  • In January-April 2020, the sea ports of Ukraine handled 357.7 thousand TEU, up 17.1% year-on-year.

    By way of comparison, Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk during January-April 2020 handled 289.4 thousand TEU growing by 3.4%.

    According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, export container traffic via the Ukrainian sea ports made 168.1 thousand TEU, up 14.5% year-on-year. Import increased by 18.7% up to 173.4 thousand TEU. Transit container traffic via the major Ukrainian ports grew by 30.8%. Cabotage was non-existent.

    Odessa handled 218.5 thousand TEU in January-April, up 10.6% year-on-year.

    Container traffic via Pivdenniy (formerly, Yuzhny) increased by 29.6% to make 85.5 thousand TEU.

    Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled 53.4 thousand TEU, up 27.9% year-on-year.

    Olvia Specialized Sea Port (formerly, Oktyabrsk) handled 264 TEU, up 7.3-fold year-on-year.
