Russia Import More Glass and Fewer Mirrors in 2019

    According to SeaNews Russian Foreign Trade Customs Statistics online service, in 2019 Russia imported 532.2 thousand tons of glass and glass products (+1.6% year-on-year) worth $899 mn (-0.5%).

    Glass and glass products were shipped to Russia from 86 countries. The main supplier was China, while Moscow and Moscow Oblast were the main destination regions.

    Polished and ground glass import increased by 9.6% up to 131 thousand tons in physical terms and declined by 7.8% down to $46.2 mn in monetary terms, by contrast. The main exporting countries were Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, China and Belgium. Glass was mainly designated for to Moscow and Kaluga regions, as well as to Krasnoyarsk Kray.

    Fiberglass and fiberglass products import amounted to 88.3 thousand tons (+3.8%) worth $170.3 mn (-0.5%). Most of the products originated from China and Belarus, more than half of the goods imported was shipped to Moscow, Vladimir and Moscow regions.

    Glassware was imported 75.3 thousand tons (-4.2%) worth $164.1 mn (-6%). Most of the goods came from China, France and Belarus to Moscow and Moscow region.

    The import of mirrors decreased by 5.2% down to 18.3 thousand tons in physical terms, while in monetary terms, by contrast, it increased by 1.6% up to $135.9 mn.

    Glass and glass products import from China increased by 10.4% up to 178 thousand tons in terms of tonnage, in monetary terms it was up 4.4% to $292.5 mn. More than half of the entire volume was designated for Moscow and Vladimir Oblasts, Moscow and Primorsky Kray.

    Belarus exported to Russia 138 thousand tons of glass and its products (-1.6%) worth $80.3 mn (-5.9%). Most of the volume was shipped to Moscow Oblast, Moscow and St. Petersburg.

    Import from Germany decreased by 20.6% down to 27.3 thousand tons in terms of tonnage and by 21.9% down to $82.6 mn in monetary terms. Glass and glass products were mainly shipped to Moscow, Moscow, Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod Oblasts, and St. Petersburg.
