Ferrous Metal Products Import into Russia in 2019

  • According to SeaNews Russian Foreign Trade Customs Statistics online service, ferrous metal products import into Russia in 2019 amounted to 2.6 mn tons (+24.4% year-on-year) worth or $6.4 bn (+10.1%).

    Last year, ferrous metal products were imported to Russia from 154 countries. About half of the tonnage originated from China, Finland and Belarus. The major importing regions were Moscow, St. Petersburg, Moscow Oblast, and Tyumen Oblast.

    Ferrous metals products import from China increased by 22.7% up to 842.2 thousand tons in physical terms, and by 28.3% up to $1.9 bn in monetary terms. Significant volumes were designated for in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Moscow Oblast, Tyumen Oblast, and Primorsky Kray.

    467.2 thousand tons of ferrous metal products (28.7 times more than in 2018) worth $399.4 mn (up 5.3-fold) was imported from Finland. Most of the volume was shipped via St. Petersburg.

    Import from Belarus decreased by 6% down to 317.5 thousand tons in physical terms and by 12% down to $424.2 mn in monetary terms. The main importing regions were Moscow, Moscow Oblast and Smolensk Oblast.
