Russian Transport Sector Up 1.7% in 2019

  • During 2019, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system was up 1.7% to 8.3 bn tons.

    The only segment that grew was road, which was up 3.3% to 5.73 mn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, rail cargo volume declined by 0.9% down to 1.28 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was down 0.9% year-on-year to 1.28 bn tons.

    Maritime transport volume decreased by 19.8% year-on-year down to 18.5 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume dropped by 14.9% year-on-year down to 98.8 mn tons.

    Air transport carried 1.15 mn tons, down 1.1% year-on-year.

    In December, road haulage and inland shipping volumes decreased month-on-month, cargo transportation by other transport modes grew.
