Russian Transport Sector in January-August

  • During January-August 2019, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system was up 1% to 5.29 bn tons.

    The only segment that grew was road, which was up 2.4% to 3.59 bn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, rail cargo volume declined by 1.1% down to 851.5 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was down 0.8% year-on-year to 766.6 mn tons.

    Maritime transport volume decreased by 19.5% year-on-year down to 12.6mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume dropped by 14.9% year-on-year down to 65.1 mn tons.

    Air transport carried 0.7 mn tons, down 4% year-on-year.

    In August, the transport system segments that demonstrated positive growth were road, rail and maritime sectors, cargo transportation by all the other transport modes declined.
