Rosatom, DP World. Norilsk Nickel and the Russian Direct Investment Fund signed an agreement on cooperation in efficient commercial exploitation of the Northern Sea Route at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The document was signed by DP World CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev, Nirulsk Nickel president Vladimir Potanin and RDIF MD Kirill Dmitriev.
“We are working together to develop transit cargo traffic through the Northern Sea Routes. We aim to increase the volume of freight traffic through the NSR and the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. To do this, we’ll need to design and construct an additional ice-class fleet and icebreakers, as well as port infrastructure. We are also taking the environment incredibly seriously and are committed to protecting these maritime routes as freight traffic grows there. I’m excited about the possibilities that an NSR development will bring, not only to the Russian economy but to customers in Asia and Europe. I see enormous potential in NSR and look forward to creating new successes with our partners”, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem commented.
“We are starting on a really big job associated with developing and operating the Northern Sea Route in the all-year-round regime. We can solve a huge number of tasks only in a cooperation with private businesses and international operators. It is a really big international project, and we are interested in a wide scale of participants”, A.Likhachev said.
