According to SeaNews Russian Foreign Trade Customs Statistics online service, in 2019 Russia exported 3.7 mn tons of aluminum and aluimnum products (+8.3% yearon-year) worth $6.9 bn (+5.3%).
Last year, aluminum and aluminum products were shipped from Russia to 128 countries. The main destinations were Switzerland, the Netherlands, Turkey, Japan and the USA. The majority of shipments originated from the Irkutsk region, Khakassia and Krasnoyarsk Kray.
Aluminum and alloys containing this metals are used, primarily, in aircraft and car manufacturing. Aluminum is also widely used in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and instrument making, in industrial and civil construction, chemical industry, and consumer goods production.
Aluminum and aluminum alloys are also increasingly used in shipbuilding. Ship hulls, superstructures, communications and various types of vessel equipment are made of aluminum alloys.
Aluminum alloys are used to manufacture welded containers for railway transportation of chemical and petrochemical products, and to make manufacture of the body and frame of railcars.
In oil industry, corrosion-resistant aluminum alloys make it possible to increase operational reliability of drill pipes, tubing and oil and gas pipelines. High resistance to corrosion cracking makes it possible to use aluminum alloys to manufacture oil and products storage tanks.
In 2019, the export bn raw aluminum increased by 7.3% up to 3.3 mn tonnes in physical terms and by 6.4% up to $5.7 billion in monetary terms. The main importing countries were Switzerland, the Netherlands, Japan, Turkey and the USA. Unwrought aluminum was mainly shipped from the Irkutsk region, Khakassia and Krasnoyarsk Kray.
Aluminum wire export from Russia amounted to 174.6 thousand tons (+42.3%) worth $307.1 mn (+26.9%) in 2019. Significant volumes were shipped to Switzerland, Belarus, the USA, Ukraine and Poland. Almost all shipments originated from the Irkutsk region, Moscow and the Murmansk region.
The export of aluminum slabs, sheets, strips or tapes over 0.2 mm made 122.3 thousand tons (+5.6%) worth $357.3 mn (-5.3%). The main importing countries were Poland, Finland, the USA, Ukraine and Belarus, while the main regions of departure were Samara, Sverdlovsk and Rostov regions.
The export of aluminum bars and profiles decreased by 7.8% down to 66.3 thousand tons worth $197.5 mn, down 21.2% to. The largest volumes were designated for Germany, Belarus, Kazakhstan and the USA. More than half of the goods (both in physical and in monetary terms) were shipped from the Sverdlovsk and Samara regions.
Aluminum and aluminum products export to Switzerland dropped by 13.7% down to 803.9 thousand tons in 2019. In monetary terms, shipments decreased by 16.9% to 1.2 bn dollars. Almost all shipments originated from the Irkutsk region and the Krasnoyarsk Kray.
Aluminum and products export to the Netherlands amounted to 440.5 thousand tons (+10.8%) worth $811.9 mn (+8.3%). Most of the shipments came from Khakassia, the Irkutsk region and Krasnoyarsk Kray.
Aluminum and aluminum products export to Turkey increased both physically (+35.9%) and in monetary terms (+37.3%) up to 363.1 thousand tons worth $631.8 mn. The main exporting regions were Khakassia, the Irkutsk region, Krasnoyarsk Kray, the Kemerovo region and Moscow.
