Grain Export Target Can Be Amended

  • The RF Ministry of Agriculture can amend the grain export target for the current season, Minister Dmitry Patrushev said in a meeting of the operations headquarters held on August 5 in Bashkortostan to discuss the harvesting campaign.

‘Harvesting is actively underway in all of the federal regions, with 27% of the territory and some 55 mn tons of crops harvested,’ the press office of the Ministry quotes Patrushev as saying.

‘The current harvest is not bad, but at the moment it is notably below last years’ figures. One of the reasons is the cold spring, which led to a later start of harvesting in many regions. Secondly, harvesting in some regions is hampered by rains, humidity and winds. Besides, there a problems with supplying parts for harvesting machinery of foreign make,’ he added.

‘These factors put together make risks for achieving last year’s harvest of 130 mn tons. Of course, we will have enough grain for our domestic market. But, should we fail to harvest the target volume of crops, we will have to amend our export targes of 50 mn tons. This may have’na adverse affect on the global grain market,’ Partushev said.
