Foreign Trade via Baltic Customs in 2021

  • Foreign trade via the Baltic Customs made $49.9 mn during 2021, up 23.4% year-on-year.

    The number of cargo declarations issued amounted to more than 366.4 thousand including 319 thousand import declarations (up 9%) and 47.4 thousand export ones (up 17.4%).

    90% of all the cargo declarations submitted to the Baltic Customs were registered automatically and 27.5% were automatically cleared.

    In terms of tonnage, over 27.8 mn tons of cargo was declared via the Baltic Customs, down 6.6% year-on-year. Import traffic was up 13.5%, while export declined by 18%.

    Container traffic via the Baltic Customs made 557,782 units in 2021 compared to 543,408 units in 2020.

    A significant share in the import volume was fruit. Other top import commodities were polymer materials, inorganic chemical products, equipment, vessels and boats, fish and seafood.

    The top export commodities were ore, stag and ash, fertilizers, timber and woodwork, ferrous metals, salt, sulphur, soil and stones.

    The major countries of origin for import cargo in the Baltic Customs region in 2021 were China, Ecuador, Germany, South Africa, India, Republic of Korea, Brazil, the Netherlands, the USA and Argentina.

    The top countries of destination for export via the Baltic Customs were China, Turkey, Belgium, Brazil, the USA, Lithuania, Norway, the Netherlands, Finland, and India.
