According to the Association of European Businesses (AEB) statistics, the sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia in January-August 2019 declined by 2.3% year-on-year amounting to over 1.1 mn units.
In August, the sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles were down 1.3% year-on-year to 145.5 thousand units.
“August showed no significant change in the overall market situation, as market sales continue to underperform vs. the robust level established in the prior year”, commented Joerg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee.
Lada remained the leader of the Russian car market in August with its sales increasing 4.6% year-on-year up to 30 thousand units.
KIA continues to rate the second with its sales amounting to 18.5 thousand cars, down 1.7% year-on-year.
Hyundai remains the third, its sales increased slightly by 0.5% up to 14.1 thousand cars.
Renault saw its sales grow more significantly by 12.3% year-on-year up to 12.9 thousand units.
Toyota was the fifth, its sales decreased by 6.4% down to 9.1 thousand units.
Among the car brands that demonstrated the most spectacular growth in August were FIAT commercial vehicles (up 5.7-fold), Haval (up 5.6-fold), Geely (up 2.3-fold) and Citroёn commercial vehicles (up 2.3-fold).
The brands that saw their sales decline the most were Ford (-85%), Lifan (-79%), Zotye (-79%), Foton commercial vehicles (-65%), FAW (-56%) and Jaguar (-53%).
