Baltic Sea and North Europe Freight Market

  • On week 2 of 2018, there were some changes in the freight rates for shipping cargo by Handysize bulkers in the Baltic and North-West European market.

    Compared to the next to the last week of 2017, freight rates for shipping wheat from ARAG to East Med by Handysize bulkers grew to $30 per ton.

    Freight rates for wheat from ARAG to West Med remained on the level of $23 per ton, and from the Baltic to North Spain at $20 per ton.

    Freight rates for shipping coal by Handysize bulkers from the Baltic to North Spain declined to $21 per ton for 15,000 dwt vessels and to $19 per ton for 25,000 dwt vessels.

    Freight rates for shipping scrap from the Baltic to East Med were up to $39 per ton and to West Med up to $33 per ton.

    Freight rates on the ARAG – East Med route also grew to $33 per ton.

    Freight rates for coasters did not change remaining on the next to the last week of 2017 level.
