    Alexey Chekunkov, Minister for the development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, has visited the construction of the would-be Lavna port in Murmansk region.

    The project is aimed at building a non-freezing port and a new railway to the western shore of the Kola Bay. At the first stage scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023, a coal terminal with an annual capacity of 18 mn tons and 46 km of railway infrastructure are to be built.

    The new port is expected to become an important hub for the Russian North and the Northern Sea Route opening new export markets in the APR.

    The private investment into the project is to exceed 60 bn rubles ($800.1 mn).
