Zvezda Lays Keel of Lead Research Vessel

    Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex in the Russian Far East has laid the keel for a multifunctional research vessel. The vessel will be named after Viktor Ilyin, a renowned Russian scientist, a specialist in oceanography, hydrophysics, and hydroacoustics, the yard said in a statement.

    The vessel is designed to conduct fundamental and applied research of the Global Ocean including hydrometeorologic measurements, water sampling and analysis, operating submersible equipment, measuring magnetic, gravitation, electric and thermal fields, biologic and environmental research, high-precision geologic and hydrographic bottom survey, sampling and analyzing seabed rock and sediment, environmental monitoring, etc.

    • LOA: 122.5 m,
    • beam: 20 m,
    • draft: 5.6 m,
    • displacement: 8,100 tons,
    • speed: 15 knots,
    • propulsion: 7,840 kWt,
    • cruising range 50 days / 7,500 miles.

    The vessel will be equipped with a helipad.
