Russian Ports’ Throughput in September: Ferrous Metals Up

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput of the Russian sea ports in October 2021 increased by 4.2% year-on-year.

    Export grew by 4.4%, import by 6.7%, and transit by 15%, while cabotage declined by 6.3%/

    Almost 50% in the Russian sea ports’ commodity structure was oil and products. In October, crude oil accounted for 30% of the total volume and oil products for 16.7%. Coal and coke constituted 24.4% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the sugar segment (up 4.6-fold), ferrous metals (+43.4%) and liquid chemicals (+33.6%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were piece cargo (-45%), metal scrap (-42.1%) and grain (-35.8%).

    The Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 31.2% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian sea ports in October. The Baltic basin handled 30.1%, the Far Eastern basin accounted for 26.6%, the Arctic basin for 11.3% and the Caspian basin for 0.8% of the total.
