Rail Export via Russian Sea Ports Up 9% in January-August

    According to Russian Railways, the loading of cargo designated for export via Russian sea ports made 234 mn tons during January-August 2021 increasing 8.9% year-on-year.

    52.4% of the entire volume was coal, oil and products accounted for 21.9% of the total export rail freight, ferrous metals for 6.7%, fertilizers for 6.3%, ore for 3.4%, and grain for 2.4% of the total.

    Coal loading increased by 14% year-on-year up to 122.5 mn tons during the period under report. Ferrous ore loading for export via sea ports was up 19.7% to 8 mn tons, fertilizers up 10.4% to 14.7 mn tons, ferrous metals up 7.2% to 15.8 mn tons.

    83.9 mn tons of export cargo, 12.2% above the level of 2020, was designated for the North-West sea ports. The Southern region ports accounted for 60.1 mn tons, up 19.2% year-on-year. Cargo volume loaded for export via the ports of the Russian Far East made 77.3 mn tons, up 5.8% year-on-year.

    In August 2021, 29.1 mn tons of cargo was loaded for export via Russian sea ports, up 2.5% month-on-month. Export cargo loaded for rail transportation to the North-West sea ports decreased by 2.3% down to 12.5 mn tons, that designated to the South Russian ports made to 6.8 mn tons, same as in July, and that to the Russian Far East grew by 9.1% up to 9.6 mn tons.
