Arctic Basin Ports’ Throughput in July 2021: Metal Scrap Up

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin ports in July 2021 increased by 10.1% year-on-year. Cabotage grew by 68.6%, and import was up 24.4-fold. Export declined by 25.8%

    The share of the Arctic basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in July 2021 amounted to 12%.

    45.7% of the total cargo traffic was crude oil, coal and coke accounted for 18.4% and LNG for 18.1%.

    The highest growth was in the metal scrap (up 6.5-fold), other bulk (grab) (up 2.3-fold) and coal and coke (+31%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were ore (-38.2%), chemical and mineral fertilizers (-26.6%), and other general cargo (-9.3%).

    Murmansk accounted for 57.7% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Arctic basin sea ports in July. Sabetta handled 27.7%, and Varandey 4.9% of the total.
