Container Traffic via Arctic Basin Ports in June 2021 Down 37.7%

    The article is based on SeaNews PORTSTAT online service (available for SeaNews subsribers).

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Arctic basin ports in June 2021 decreased by 37.7% year-on-year.

    Cabotage, which accounts for the major share of the total, declined by 37%. Export was down by 49.5%, and import down 91.5%.

    The share of the Arctic basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in June 2021 amounted to 2.4%.

    Laden container throughput in the Arctic decreased by 22.1% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 1.7% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 98.3%. Cabotage made 99.9% of all the laden containers, exports 0.1%.

    Empty container traffic dropped by 67.1%.

    The port of Arkhangelsk accounted for 38.4% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Arctic basin sea ports in June. Dudinka handled 30.8% of the total, and Murmansk 19.8%.
