Rail Export via Ports Up in Northwest, Down in Russian Far East and South

    According to Russian Railways, the loading of cargo designated for export via Russian sea ports made 204.9 mn tons during January-July 2021 increasing 9.4% year-on-year.

    52.4% of the entire volume was coal, oil and products accounted for 22% of the total export rail freight, ferrous metals for 6.9%, fertilizers for 6.1%, and grain for 2.3% of the total.

    Coal loading increased by 15.5% year-on-year up to 107.4 mn tons during the period under report.

    Coal loading designated for South Russian ports grew by 1.8-fold year-on-year up to 16.8 mn tons, that to North-Western ports was up 15.5% up to 35 mn tons, and that to the Russian Far East up 4.5% to 55.8 mn tons.

    All in all, 83.9 mn tons of export cargo, 11.7% above the level of 2020, was designated for the North-West sea ports. The Southern region ports accounted for 53.3 mn tons, up 21.7% year-on-year. Cargo volume loaded for export via the ports of the Russian Far East made 67.7 mn tons, up 6.2% year-on-year.

    In July 2021, 28.4 mn tons of cargo was loaded for export via Russian sea ports, about the same as last month. Export cargo loaded for rail transportation to the North-West sea ports increased by 14.3% up to 14.3 mn tons, that designated to the South Russian ports was down 11.7% to 6.8 mn tons, and that to the Russian Far East down 6.4% to 8.8 mn tons.
