Far East Basin Ports’ Throughput in June 2021 Up 5.5%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin ports in June 2021 increased by 5.5% year-by-year. Export grew by 5%, import was up 34.7%, and transit up 53.6%. Cabotage declined by 4.8%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in June 2021 amounted to 26.9%.

    More than 75% in the Russian Far Eastern ports’ commodity structure is coal, oil and products. In June 2021, coal and coke accounted for 49.3% of the total volume, crude oil for 21.1% and oil products for 6.5%. Containerized cargo constituted 9.1% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth rate was in the other bulk (grab) segment (up 2.4-fold), chemical and mineral fertilizers (up 2.3-fold) and grain (+98.3%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were other bulk (suction) (-92.2%), non-ferrous metals (-57.2%) and ferry cargo (-40.6%).

    Vostochny accounted for 32.7% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in June. Vanino handled 13.4%, and Vladivostok 12.4% of the total.
