Azov and Black Sea Basin Throughput in June 2021: Grain Up

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Azov and Black Sea basin ports in June 2021 increased by 34.8% year-on-year. Transit grew by 30.5%, import was up 32.2%, and export up 40.1%. Cabotage, on the contrary, decreased by 4.6%.

    The share of the Azov and Black Sea basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in June 2021 amounted to 32%.

    More than half of the total was oil and products, with crude oil accounting for 32.9% of the overall throughput, and oil products for 23.8%. Coal and coke amount to 13.9%. Grain constituted 11.3% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the grain segment (up 6.5-fold), sugar (up 4.2-fold), reefers cargo (up 2.4-fold).

    The commodities that decreased the most were foodstuffs (-53.3%), ore (-44.4%) and other bulk (suction) (-41.9%).

    Novorossiysk accounted for 56.5% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Azov and Black basin sea ports in June. Taman handled 13.1%, and Tuapse 10% of the total.
