According to the Association of European Businesses (AEB) statistics, the sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia during January-October 2020 declined by 12.1% year-on-year making 1.19 mn units.

In October, the sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles grew by 7% year-on-year and declined by 0.2% month-on-month to make 154.2 thousand units.

“Like every year, strong October sales performance starts the Year-end race. With 7% increase of new vehicle sales versus October 2019, the first month of Quarter VI shows highest monthly growth in 2020 so far. This strong result is mainly triggered by the success of the big market players with the domestic production that assures more flexibility in deliveries. With -12,1%  YoY, the annual gap versus the last year is getting smaller, expecting two strong months coming. It seems realistic, that the updated AEB AMC year-end sales forecast of 1 522 k passenger vehicles and LCVs will be met,” Thomas Staertzel, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, commented.

Lada remained the leader of the Russian car market in October with its sales up 22.4% year-on-year to 37 thousand units.

KIA continues to rate the second with its sales amounting to 21.2 thousand cars, up 5.3% year-on-year.

Hyundai remains the third with its sales down 2.5% year-on-year to 15.4 thousand cars.

Renault ranked the fourth, its sales grew by 5% up to 14.4 thousand units.

Škoda moved up in the ranking with its sales up 13.5% to 10.1 thousand units and forced Volkswagen out of the Top 5.

Among the car brands that demonstrated the most spectacular growth in October were Foton (up 2,9 раза), Geely (up 2.2-fold), Chery (up 2.2-fold), Nissan (up 2.1-fold), and FAW (up 2.1-fold).

The brands that saw their sales decline the most were Chevrolet (-97%), Genesis (-57%) and Chrysler (-40%).
