Car Sales Continue to Decline

  • According to the Association of European Businesses (AEB) statistics, the sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia in January-April 2019 declined by 1% year-on-year amounting to 545.3 thousand mn units. In April, the sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles dropped by 2.7% down to 148.3 thousand.

Lada remained the leader of the Russian car market in April with its sales increasing 5.2% year-on-year down to 32.3 thousand units.

KIA continues to rate the second with its sales amounting to 19.8 thousand cars, up 1.2% year-on-year.

Hyundai remains the third, its sales declined by 3.1% down to 15.4 thousand cars.

Renault saw its sales grow by 4.9% year-on-year up to 12.5 thousand units.

Volkswagen rates the fifth, its sales increased by 7.3% up to 9.6 thousand units.

Among the car brands that demonstrated the most spectacular growth in April were Hyundai commercial vehicles (up 18.8-fold), Geely (up 3.6-fold), and Haval (up 2.9-fold).

The brands that saw their sales decline the most were Honda (-66%), Infiniti (-62%), Jaguar (-60%), Nissan (-55%), and SsangYong (-50%).
