Russian Transport System in January-February 2019

  • During the first two months of 2019, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system increased by 2.2% year-on-year to make 1.13 bn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, road transport accounts for the largest share in the entire volume with 712.8 mn tons, up 3.5% year-on-year.

    Rail cargo volume increased by just 0.7% year-on-year up to 205.6 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was down 0.8% year-on-year to 205 mn tons.

    Air freight was on the same level with last years’ January-February result at 0.15 mn tons.

    Maritime transport volume grew by 6.9% year-on-year up to 3.1 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume declined by 4.8% year-on-year down to 4 mn tons.

    In February, the only transport system segment that demonstrated positive growth was the road sector.
